Richard Zarzi
- Artist -

What's my biggest inspiration? Love. I’m crazy about love. I am in love with love.  It is a unique virtue that we as humans share. It is a quality we are born with and that we cultivate through appreciation of others' art, and creation of our own. The more art we have in our lives, the more love we have in our hearts, and the closer we can feel to others, and to universal light. Love is, quite simply, the meaning of life.

About the Artist

Before establishing himself as one of the world’s most renowned pop artists, Richard enjoyed a successful career in the fashion industry, splitting his time between St. Tropez, Cannes and London. His extensive  expertise in aesthetics and composition come to bear in his creative process - distinctive colourways, playful juxtapositions of character and background, and sophisticated design and visual trickery makes his work instantly recognisable.

Richard uses an unusual array of tools and processes to create his mixed media digital to physical crossovers, and inject sparkle into his message, including painting and projection, resin, acrylic, oil and diamond dust. The magical, often dazzling, outcomes highlight the natural characteristics of his subjects, capturing their beauty, humour or charisma and rendering their image timeless through his unique interpretation. He sees his art as an opportunity to imitate, supplement, alter, or counteract the work of nature and to celebrate the glamorous and timeless side of society through the ages.

Richard has been the subject of many solo shows at a wide range of prestigious events in his home country including the Monaco Yacht Show and the Cannes Film Festival where he exhibits regularly. He has also exhibited across Europe, notably with solo shows in many of London’s top art galleries.

Having created more than 1,700 unique artworks in his career, Richard's art can now be found in the most sought-after collections around the world. He numbers several major stars amongst his collectors, including Kate Moss, Freddie Ljungberg, Trevor Horn and the late Karl Lagerfeld, to name a few.

My art explores themes of humanity that have persisted through centuries and civilisations - our search for fame and significance, our battles with our vulnerabilities and fears, our pursuits of desire - all in the name of love. My art is a reflection of our never-ending quest to experience life in all its dimensions, and in doing so achieve higher degrees of love. Through my work I seek to embellish the innately familiar to trigger those universal feelings that as humans we all share, and in doing so help us feel more connected to our natures, and to one another.

Life and Love, captured in Art

"ICONOTASTIC" COMPOSITIONS

Iconoclasm is the social belief in the importance of the destruction of icons and other images or monuments, most frequently for religious or political reasons. Contrary to this ever popular movement, Richard elevates notable social icons, both past and present, to new heights through visual exaggeration of the feelings they elicited. While the icons may no longer carry the same significance today, the fantastic effects they've had on the evolution of human consciousness persist through the ages.

"TIMELESS VIRTUES"

Throughout each generation, geniuses are born to the world that catapult the human species to new heights. Richard explores and captures the boundless virtues and "light" engendered by these individuals whilst reminding us that our distorted infatuations for their memories hide a realisation that they too, were flawed humans seeking enlightenment like us all.

"DIAMOND HANDS"

Exploring our fascination with the pursuit of fortune, the Diamond Hands theme explores humanity's perpetual desire for achieving greater financial wealth. The term "Diamond Hands" refers to the steadfastness of cryptocurrency investors in the face of violent market volatility, where fortunes are made and lost in instants. Those with Diamond Hands weather crushing emotions, disappointments and often destitutions to experience the riches that lay on the other side. A temporal microcosm of the macrocosm of life.
